Printed Leggings

So on my personal facebook page, I posted the following status:

"Anyone have thoughts on printed leggings? Would you wear them? One of the trends I personally have a harder time wrapping my head around. Hmmmm"

I got a mixed bag of reactions from my family and friends.  Surprisingly all but one, of the 25-35 year olds that responded thought that printed leggings were for college and high school girls (which was kind of the way I was leaning). But the woman that responded that she loves them and wears them all the time is someone I consider to have a great sense of style. She also always looks put together and appropriate for the occasion.

However, others that responded were in the 35+ group thought that they were cute with the right outfits and if you had the confidence to pull them off.

My final thoughts on the matter:  Anyone cannot do any trend.  Sometimes you have to pick which trends actually represent you in the way you want to be perceived.  I am guessing anyone can wear printed leggings as long as they have the rest of their outfit styled correctly and the confidence to pull them off.

Trash to Treasure

I am always looking for inexpensive ways to do displays for the store and this time I got super super lucky.  This tiered table was in the basement of the store. I cannot believe I didn't see it before but the lighting down there isn't great and it was on its side and there were a bunch of boards piled on top of it. Boots & Heels has been in the building for 2 1/2 years so lord only knows how long it has been down there.

Now I don't know how familiar anyone is with the history of this building but it has been: Christies Grocery Store, Creative Impressions, and Ramsey One Hour photo, Boots & Heels and probably some others through out the years. So more than likely one of the previous owners put this damaged table down there and new thought about it again. Lucky for me!

I did not take a before picture but this tiered table was a grey color and pretty water stained.  When we got it up from the basement it was not all that pretty.  However, after a great deal of roughing up prep with a sander, cleaning all the grit and dust off, I was able to put a LOT of coats of white paint on it.  And I mean A LOT.  However, it looks great and the only thing I had to buy was a paint brush because I had a half gallon of paint leftover from another project!  Wahoo how about that a table for $12. :)

Note: The shoes displayed on the table are Eastland Boat shoes and are available at Boots & Heels in Devils Lake.  Gotta love that local Devils Lake Shopping!

Spring Fashion

Spring is getting so close to being sprung.  This week it is finally going to pull out of the arctic and become above zero for all of us in North Dakota.  I am going to do some serious cart wheels down the street when it does!  All of this cold weather is depressing and for retailers... Well... Just downright more so. ;)

But with Spring coming it definitely means we will soon be pulling out our Spring/Summer wardrobes and figuring out what we have, what we need, and what we want.  So make sure you take some time to examine your wardrobe.   We of course need to use our closet organizing piles for this: Toss, Good Will, Repair, Cherish and Keep.

Toss Pile:  Is that great top more worn out than you remember? Sorry it is toss it time (or rag bin/craft bin if that floats your boat). Sandals look like they may in fact give you the plague. TOSS that before it become bubonic.

Good Will: If it didn't fit you last year and nothing has changed just get rid of it already.  There is no sense looking at it year after year and feeling bad about yourself.  Poor fitting clothing takes up valuable closet space, looks not at all appealing on and frankly, we all know you can do better.  So give it to Good Will and your to tiny/big mistake can be someone else perfection.

Repair: Do those great pants have a seam that seems like it could use a little fix? Put them in the repair pile and GET THIS... Go repair it.  Do it yourself, take it to the friendly dry cleaner or a seamstress/tailor.  If you are in Devils Lake call me, I can certainly give you some suggestions.

Cherish: This pile always seems to build up on us.  But if you haven't gotten that prom dress, wedding dress or baptismal gown out of your closet you need to.  If you love it and it has good memories, keep it.
